Thiago Silva injury leaves bitter taste after FA Cup win

Chelsea are very close to the FA Cup semi final, but it’s not all good news.

In the late stages of the game, Thiago Silva – who had been immense at the back alongside Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger – went down holding his back, and was eventually replaced by Kurt Zouma.

Andreas Christensen is already out, so the loss of Silva would be a blow – although Zouma is a capable deputy in any case.

Silva has played the last two games after Christensen’s injury and looked comfortable as ever, and his leadership has been key in games like today’s.

The Brazilian will be a big loss on the pitch if it’s a significant injury – but from the way he limped off it might just be a tweak or a pinched nerve.

Either way, given how close Chelsea are to extending his deal, it’s not a great look for the veteran trying to prove he’s not over the hill.
