Rudiger, Kepa, James, and Azpilicueta all involved in bust-ups in West Brom aftermath

Chelsea fell hideously to a 5-2 defeat to West Brom on Saturday lunchtime, and clearly the result has taken its toll on the players.

A report surfaced from The Telegraph yesterday suggesting that a number of players had been involved in verbal altercations in the aftermath of the loss, with Antonio Rudiger and Kepa Arrizabalaga even involved in a shoving match.

Rudiger apparently went in hard in a challenge on Kepa in a small-sided game in training on Sunday which the Spaniard reacted to. The pair pushed each other and Rudiger did not calm down. As a result, the German was sent inside early and missed the rest of the session.

Reece James and captain Cesar Azpilicueta were also involved in some heated words after the West Brom defeat.

However, the report does point out the fact that all the incidents have since been cleared up and put to bed by all the parties and apologies were made.

  1. it seems there are huge cracks at chelsea. these had been patched with the arrival of tuchel. from my analysis since lampard’s days there have been 2 if not 3 camps (a) the academy graduates eg james, abraham and company who had been promised to quickly take over from cesar, giroud and company (b) the old guard of rudiger, alonso, kante, giroud etc led by cesar (c) the new arrivals with werner, ziyech etc. lampard may have created these and mishandled the transition from the old guard to the other two groups. lampard may have been sacked as a result of player power when he wielded the axe on luiz followed by the freezing of rudiger, alonso, cesar and others in preference of james, abraham, chilwell, mount etc. THIS IS WHERE THE DISUNITY BETWEEN CESAR/ RUDIGER vs JAMES & OTHERS is centred around. these 3 players may be the vocal fronts of those camps
Tuchel has to be careful. he may suffer lampard’s fate. whatever happens between now and 31 May must provide the opportunity to sell some bad apples at chelsea. questions should be raised with regards to rudiger’s indiscipline, james’ desired to usurp cesar’s position, abrahams attitude, zouma/jorginho/ alonso’s performances and werner/abraham/pulisic/giroud’s relevance.
the way forward maybe to release some of these players quickly and look for replacements. if i was tuchel rudiger, jorginho, alonso, abraham, werner, and kepa should be quickly released. chelsea will be better with properly scouted replacements
