Romelu Lukaku is Chelsea’s second choice striker for summer “assault”

It’s the afternoon ahead of a big Champions League quarter final tie for Chelsea, so what’s in the news? Transfer rumours, of course!

To be fair, it’s quite an exciting one. Romelu Lukaku has already been a Chelsea player once, and has come close to returning on a few occasions, and now it seems the club are lining up yet another potential attempt.

CalcioMercato in Italy are the ones leading the charge this time, saying that Lukaku is Chelsea’s second choice behind Erling Haaland to be their new number 9. Given how difficult it is likely to be to land Haaland, second place isn’t a bad place to be.

The Italian source describes the Blues’ interest as an “assault”, and it’s likely it would take some quite serious action to prise him away from Inter Milan. He’s about to fire them to a first Serie A title in a decade, and is perfectly placed to lead their charge again next season. It will take a huge amount of financial persuasion to make them – and the player – give up on that prospect.
