Jules Kounde looks more interesting for Chelsea after defensive collapse

Chelsea conceded 5 goals to West Brom at the weekend, which is enough to get any manager to reconsider their defensive options.

The Blues’ back 3 had done so well for them in the last 2 months, but suddenly looked exposed, and individuals like Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma went from world beaters to ordinary as the Baggies tore into them.

It’s certainly sparked a few transfer rumours into life, and on the Ornstein and Chapman podcast today they brought a new one to light – the idea that highly rated Sevilla centre back Jules Kounde is on Chelsea’s shortlist.

We wouldn’t dispute that for a second. He’s one of the brightest defensive prospects in Europe, and every top club will be watching him closely.

Whether Chelsea are willing to open their wallet wide enough to get to the front of the queue is another matter. A few more results like Saturday’s and maybe that cost won’t seem so prohibitive.
