Chelsea will extend Thiago Silva’s contract after successful experiment

It’s all systems go when it comes to Thiago Silva’s new contract, according to Italian transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Signing the Brazilian on a free looked a bit of a no brainer this summer, and so it’s proved to be. As well as some excellent performances on the pitch, he’s done his bit as an experienced head in the dressing room too.

Romano, speaking on his podcast in quotes picked up by TheScore as you can see above, said that Silva intends to stay at Chelsea, where he is happy. The club are said to be happy with him too, meaning that another year looks almost guaranteed.

It was rumoured before that Chelsea have a unilateral one year extension clause in the deal anyway, so Silva’s feelings aren’t even that relevant. It’s all working smoothly – perhaps he could slide right in as a coach once he ends his time at the club?
