It’s 1-0 to Chelsea at half time in the Champions League quarter final, and we can put that lead down to one man – Mason Mount.
The whole front 3 – including Mount – had really struggled early on, and the Blues were really finding it hard to progress the ball out of their own third.
When they did work the ball to the edge of the box, Porto were settled and it looked a tough task to break them down – until a sublime turn from Mount carved open a path directly to goal. “Absolute filth”, as one on Twitter put it.
His latest superb moment generated another wave of praise on social media. Those doubters we hear so much about have gone very quiet now – and this might just be the start for young Mason. There’s no telling how far he could go.
You can see a selection of the reaction from social media in the Tweets embedded here:
Mason Mount is going to carry us to the UCL final just like Frank Lampard. Tears in my eyes.

Mount one of the best midfielders in Europe at receiving the ball. His spatial awareness & ability to shift the ball seamlessly into his next movement is world class.

That Mason Mount turn was absolute filth.
The lad is a generational talent, those who still cannot see this are blind.

The worst excuse I'm seeing is. "Tuchel has done wonders with Mount". Your eyes have been closed since. Forget managers and give him what he's been due. Mount is a class talent

That’s five goals in 14 appearances for Mount since Tuchel took charge of #CFC. Before that this season he had found the net three times in 27 matches. As I wrote, his game is on the up: #PORCHE https://t.co/7xxndOutGW

I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again. Mason Mount is the best player to come out of the Chelsea academy since John Terry. 💪 pic.twitter.com/jFKNy5qI3G

Mason Mount is the epitome of hard work and self-improvement. He told us he wanted to work on his end product and took his goal like a striker. Calm and collected in high-pressure moments, an upward trajectory like no other.
