Willy Caballero discusses his future and praises Edouard Mendy

Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero has had to largely act as a spectator for Chelsea this season, becoming third choice behind Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.

The 39-year old will soon be contemplating retirement from playing, but that won’t be just yet as the Argentine confirms he will be looking to play on again next season at least and will be weighing up the offers he gets.

Caballero has always been a great man to have around the dressing room and the training ground, influencing and supporting all the younger players.

You just know that he would have been a massive help for both Kepa, when he was struggling with form and not being selected, and Mendy, when he arrived at a new club in a new country and looked to gain some confidence.

The Blues stopper has been praising his team mate, and confirming his own future, as reported by WAGNH.

Caballero said:

“Mendy was a stranger [and] you have to take your hat off to Chelsea because the team did very well to look for him and not someone else of renown or with other marketing.

“He is almost 2 meters, he is very big, very fast and with a lot of explosiveness. He is gaining more confidence and plays better and better with his feet, because the football that Tuchel wants requires it. If the team goes up a level, he will be one of the greats to take into account.

“Everything is still to be analysed [on his future]. This season I have the possibility to think, because in the last two I was tied to an automatic renewal clause, but now I can decide with myself and my family. I will wait for that moment and see what offers will come.”
