Thomas Tuchel says it is ‘unfair’ but Christian Pulisic is good off the bench

Since Thomas Tuchel has arrived at Chelsea, there have been a number of players better off, but then a few of them at the opposite end of the scale.

Players like Kurt Zouma and Tammy Abraham for example, they went from being regulars for Frank Lampard, to squad players under Tuchel.

Interest being shown in Kurt Zouma, find out more here.

Christian Pulisic has had his issues with injuries, but he is another one who at this moment in time is losing out on game time under Tuchel.

He is being picked, but only ever as a late substitute from the bench.

Tuchel says this is where the problem lies, the fact he is so good off the bench and that’s where he really makes his impact, this is why he is not starting him in matches right now.

The German boss holds his hands up and admits that this is ‘unfair’ in his interview after the Everton win yesterday, via the Chelsea website.

He said:

“Maybe Christian’s problem is I know from Dortmund how strong he is from the bench. I think he started only in the cup game and in the end that’s my responsibility and my fault. It’s a bit unfair because I know what an impact he can have in 20 or 30 minutes. He was a bit unlucky in the last games but there’s no lack of trust or quality. He just has to be a bit patient.

“We also have another guy I would love to mention which is Emerson, who suffers from bad decisions against him from me. He does not play but he is an amazing guy who trains at the highest levels and never lets the team down with his mentality.

“This was a super hard decision today to have him out of the squad and the same with Tammy [Abraham]. It tells us we are a strong group and the guys just have to keep on fighting.”
