How Thomas Tuchel lit ‘that fire’ back up inside Mason Mount

Many people had fears that Mason Mount would not be as indispensable in Chelsea’s squad after Frank Lampard got sacked, and Thomas Tuchel took the reigns.

In fact, some still didn’t even think he would be good enough to be starting every match, which is just odd.

Those fears and thoughts grew even more when Mount was dropped under Tuchel’s first game in charge back in January.

However, since then, Mount HAS actually become indispensable under Tuchel just like he was under Lampard. Tuchel even selected him as captain in the last game, just as Lampard did.

It may be surprising some people, but for most of us who can see his clear talent and can see that Tuchel is a top coach that recognises quality, it is no surprise at all.

The Blues midfielder has been speaking whilst on international break, and he touches upon how he felt when he was dropped and how it actually helped him refocus and motivate.

“I had that motivation and that fire to want to get into the team,” Mount said, as reported by The Daily Mail.

“The first game with the manager coming in, he went for a more experienced team.

“I understood that and wanted to get back into the team, so that motivation and that fire that I have inside me came out.

“I really tried to push to get back into the team. It’s been brilliant. We are working very hard. We’ve had tough games in this last period but we have come through it. It’s exciting stuff, we continue to work hard. It’s been a great start.”
