Thomas Tuchel has barely had a day off since arriving at Chelsea in January. It’s been a totally hectic couple of months for him, and his players are being pushed to the max by the schedule too.
That’s why it was no surprise to see changes to the German coach’s lineup for today’s game. Key starters like Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante were left out of the starting lineup as Tuchel made 5 alterations.
He explained his reasoning in quotes picked up by Simon Johnson of the Athletic:
Tuchel on making five #CFC changes: “We’ve made some changes to have some fresh legs in the team. It also shows all the guys that we have total trust in the whole squad. The recent games against Man Utd & Liverpool were both very intense, both physically and mentally.” #CHEEVE

Of course everyone is calling it a “must win” because we’re up against a team competing for the top four with us. But really, it’s no more of a must win than any other game at the moment. Tuchel has to make changes sometime, and he’s chosen tonight.
If he pulls it off, we’ll be so confident going forward with players like Mount and Kante fit.
Let’s hope it works out.
