“It was quite obvious” – Chelsea defender gives verdict on Man Utd penalty claim

There was no way we would get through the whole of a Manchester United versus Chelsea match without some solid VAR controversy.

This time though, the decision went against Manchester United, and in Chelsea’s favour, after claims that Callum Hudson-Odoi handled the ball in his own penalty area.

We also just sat down with Tony Mount, the Father of Mason, who provided us with some great insights and opinions here.

After the incident was reviewed on the VAR screen by the Ref, the decision stayed as no penalty, much to the annoyance of the United players and manager after the game.

However, Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was very close to the situation, and he believes the decision was ‘quite obvious.’

The Danish international (via The Chelsea website) said that none of the players intended to handle the ball so therefore it is not a penalty, and it actually touched the United player’s hand first.

But I think the issue is how the handball rule keeps changing, and Christensen says he ‘hates’ the rule.

“I saw it and from my view it was their player that touched it with the hand,’ Christensen claimed. ‘I don’t know why they had to check it because it was quite obvious.

“I’m a defender so I hate that [handball] rule. If it wasn’t on purpose by either of them I think we should just leave it, especially when it’s not on goal, just in between two players not going anywhere.”
