“It is possible” – Reported Chelsea target admits buyers are likely be circling

Chelsea look a little thin in defensive midfield positions, and it’s at very feasible they buy someone in that position this summer.

The Blues have recently been linked with Jonas Hoffmann, mainly because he played under Thomas Tuchel at Dortmund a few years ago it seems. His good form for Borussia Monchengladbach is generating talk of a move, and Chelsea seem to be an interested party. His recent cap for Germany won’t have hurt either.

The Daily Mail picked up on German reports which had quotes from the player himself, who was quite open, if not very specific, about foreign interest.

“It may be that one or the other club has expressed its interest,” Hofmann said.

“Nevertheless, for me, the absolute focus is on having a successful season with Borussia and dedicating myself fully to success. I put my personal situation under it.”

He was then asked specifically about Chelsea, and responded:

“I think it’s clear that other clubs will notice you if you perform well. Therefore, it is possible that one or the other has already asked.”

It’s not a denial, that’s for sure. We can see him being an affordable, realistic option, and we can see Tuchel bringing him in and using him a lot, perhaps ahead of Billy Gilmour, or maybe as a replacement for Jorginho.

It’s just a move that’s starting to make sense.
