N’Golo Kante has been one of the players to see less game time since Thomas Tuchel arrived at Chelsea.
At first it seemed like a fitness issue, but since then it’s become clear that the German manager often prefers a combination of Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho. Kante has found it difficult to break into that combination.
Yesterday he got his chance with Jorginho out – perhaps rested for the Liverpool game this week – and he was brilliant.
In attack, the combination of Kante and Kovacic always looks a little insipid, but defensively they did a brilliant job on Bruno Fernandes. Every time the Portuguese received the ball, Kante was there to shut him down.
WhoScored had the France star down as a 7.9 rating out of 10, the highest on the pitch, and he was certainly among the stars of the show. His monster 7 tackles and 4 interceptions created a superb platform for his team that they just weren’t able to capitalise upon in attack.
