“It is necessary they improve” – Thomas Tuchel still wants more from summer signings

Chelsea’s front 3 against Atletico Madrid was made up of three summer signings – Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. They combined to score the opening goal that really broke Atletico’s spirit towards the end of the first half.

All three have had disappointing seasons overall, but they’ve also all recent improvements in their form thanks to the faith shown in them by Thomas Tuchel.

The Chelsea manager spoke about them in his press conference today, and in his usual straightforward style he bluntly agreed that it was “necessary they improve” after looking struggling through most of the season so far.

He pointed out that they’re out of their comfort zone in a new league, and all of them are pushing themselves to get better. The former PSG man admitted that there were concerns about the composure the three were showing as they struggle to score, but there could be no questioning their defensive work rate and their effort for the team.
