There are all sorts of ways of measuring how well a player is playing, and none tells the whole story.

One rather interesting way of doing it is comparing the goals minus the goals against while that player is on the pitch. That tells you basically how well the team did. Then you map that against expected goals for and against on the other axis, giving you even more depth on how the team actually played rather than just the result.

When you run those numbers for Chelsea, Callum Hudson-Odoi is way out in front, in both areas. The team is far better with him on the pitch, but in theory and in practice.
