Frank Lampard sounded out Juventus goalkeeper as potential Kepa replacement before Mendy signing

If there’s one thing that shows it’s the international break more than a transfer rumours, it’s when we get to the transfer rumours about transfers which didn’t happen.

We’re into the second week of this Spring edition of the break from club football, and we’re already deep into those weeds.

The Daily Mail today have a story about a move that didn’t happen last summer – apparently Frank Lampard was keen on Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as the club searched for a replacement for the struggling Kepa.

In the end they settled on Edouard Mendy – who came a lot cheaper than Szczesny would have done, and has done a good job between the sticks this season.

It certainly would have given the summer a different feeling – but do we feel we missed out? No, not really. Mendy looks a solid option, and while he’s not in the very very top bracket, neither is Szczesny.
