“Everything is open” – Chelsea defender details progress under Tuchel and aims for top 4

The race for the top four is wide open in the Premier League right now, and Chelsea are right up there.

The Blues are aiming for the top four this season, says defender Antonio Rudiger to the Chelsea website today.

The German international has been detailing exactly what Thomas Tuchel has bought to this team and although he was disappointed to not take all three points on Sunday against Manchester United, ‘everything is open’ and the centre back believes they can achieve top four this season.

Chelsea would have felt they should have took the win at Stamford Bridge against United at the weekend, which would have seen them claw back to just three points behind the Manchester side.

Now they have a tough match against Liverpool on Thursday, and once again it is important for them to get points here if they are to maintain a challenge for a Champions League spot.

Rudiger said:

“We could have done more [vs United] and there’s a lot of things we can do better. At some points of the game we were a bit sloppy, we lost a few balls and the last pass or final decision was missing.

“It’s about keeping our defensive shape, as we did over the past few weeks, and trying to do better in creating chances and scoring.

“The way we set up has been good and we always try to play from the back. Things have been going good but there’s a long way to go and we have to keep improving.

“We’re pleased with another clean sheet but it’s just one point. We have to take it and move on but I know we can still do better.

“It depends on us. We still have a lot of games to play and also against direct opponents so the battle is still in our own hands.

“What the coach has brought is his way of playing, detailed work and the defensive shape is very good at the moment.

“Our aim is to arrive in the top four. We don’t need to look at Man City at this moment because they are far ahead but with the top four, everything is open.”
