“I didn’t realise how quick he was!” – Sky pundit raves about Chelsea man

Monday night was a very good night for Chelsea, and all involved in the club.

It was one of the best performances overall we have seen so far since Thomas Tuchel took over, and the signs had been coming.

What is the latest on Chelsea’s centre back situation? Potential new deals for Antonio Ruidger and Andreas Christensen? Interest in Kurt Zouma? Get the latest report here.

Yes, Chelsea should have scored more, but it was a real complete, controlling, and confident performance, and one that Blues fans collectively enjoyed.

One of the best decisions on the night from Tuchel was to start Kai Havertz and play him in his more comfortable position at false 9, a position that brings the very best out of his qualities.

He then put on the best performance of his Chelsea career and really announced himself in England.

It wasn’t just Chelsea fans and Tuchel who were impressed though, Havertz got the pundits talking once again and he surprised Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson in particular.

The former Arsenal player was surprised by Havertz’ pace, as he wrote in his latest column.

“They’ve had two big results against Liverpool and Everton to continue what has been an unbelievable run and full credit has to go to Tuchel.

“They were a real handful against Everton, and Kai Havertz epitomised that. We finally saw his best on Monday, he was simply outstanding. I didn’t realise how quick he was! He was a real handful and the decision to bring him in last night was rewarded.”
