Chelsea back in the wonderkid market as €20m talent enters the market

It’s been a while since Chelsea plucked a South American wonderkid from the continent to join their first team, and work permit rules make it more difficult than ever.

But it can still be done, and if the rumours are anything to go by, the Blues are one of the teams interested in a hot name bubbling up down in the Southern Hemisphere.

Chelsea have today been named as one of the teams interested in Gabriel Menino by Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo, who list Thomas Tuchel’s team along with Atletico Madrid and several other top European sides as interested parties.

They cite a potential €20m asking price for the 20 year old.

Menino plays as a dominant central midfielder, and it’s easy to imagine him fitting into Tuchel’s system. On the other hand, with such a bloated squad and so many players returning from loan, it’s probably best to start thinking about selling before we buy.
