(Video): Thomas Tuchel explains why he didn’t start Giroud in Southampton draw

Chelsea got a good result against Atletico Madrid tonight to follow a disappointing one against Southampton.

Speaking after tonight’s win, Thomas Tuchel admitted that goalscorer Olivier Giroud could have played in both games, but ended up being rested for the Saints game.

He was asked whether he’d made the right call in playing a recently injured Tammy Abraham instead, who failed to impress.

This game is more important, and we understand the decision – it paid off with a huge win that could carry us through the second leg.
