Two major questions raised by Chelsea’s team against Sheffield United as important stars miss out

Chelsea have just announced their team for tonight’s game against Sheffield United, and there are some question marks major questions left by the XI Thomas Tuchel has selected.

Firstly, Christian Pulisic doesn’t even make the bench, when he might well have been expected to start if Callum Hudson-Odoi is being rested. That implies another injury problem for the American, right when he might have started.

Then there’s N’Golo Kante, who once again is on the bench. Is he still waiting for match-fitness, some time after he returned to training and days after he appeared as a sub against Tottenham? Or does he have an underlying issue we don’t know about? It’s hard to imagine that Tuchel is just leaving him out of the first team, despite the good results we’ve had.

Olivier Giroud ends up being the one to benefit from Pulisic’s absence as Timo Werner switches out wide, while Jorginho will continue with Mateo Kovacic in the middle of the park.
