Chelsea’s team for the game against Sheffield United is out, and one of the notable changes is up front, where Olivier Giroud gets a start.
That means Timo Werner is shifted to the left, with Callum Hudson-Odoi rested. Giroud started Thomas Tuchel’s first game, against Wolves, and didn’t do well. This is a big chance for him to show the new manager what he can do.
The reaction on social media to the selection reflected that, by and large.
“Turn up today” one begged, and we sure would love to see OG back to his best. We all know what he can do, and he’ll have his work cut out against 3 Sheffield United central defenders.
Werner is also probably given a reprieve by CHO’s absence, and his link up with Giroud will be vital if we want 3 points today.

Also just saw our starting 11 and its shocking. Why do we persist starting Giroud?

Giroud back in for Hudson-Odoi, Chilwell replaces Alonso and, as expected, Christensen fills in for the injured Silva. No big system change #CFC https://t.co/c4YiCsUVy2

This team is enough to see off Sheffield United
Interesting, seems Zouma is last in the pecking order now.
No kai or puli on the bench either.
Giroud will be interesting to observe, in regards to how we plan to break them down.
Come on Chels, gotta get that win tonight! https://t.co/Pzlr2jFFAa

Chilwell back in, liking the lineup with Giroud up front and CHO bring tested after 3 games. Come on the boys https://t.co/YHPOnGL2Gj
