Ben Chilwell has been one of the big losers of the Thomas Tuchel reign so far.
He was a Lampard buy, and came straight into the team once he was fit at the start of the season. His place seemed pretty much secure, even as performances dropped off through the Autumn.
But Tuchel changed it all when he arrived, and he went right for Marcos Alonso as his first choice. The Spaniard has dominated the minutes, and today is certainly the first big game Chilwell is starting for some time.
Lots of fans on social media had long run out of patience with Alonso even before this season, so they will be delighted to see the selection today.
As one enthusiastic Blue put it, Chilly “has to turn up” today against a dangerous United team.
