Tuchel: “We need to improve” to help get Timo Werner firing again

Thomas Tuchel got his first win as Chelsea boss yesterday in a convincing 2-0 victory over Burnley.

His side bossed possession but in reality it could have and should have been 5-0 to Chelsea. A few players were guilty of wasting good chances, and Timo Werner once again was one of them.

The misfiring striker is struggling to find his scoring touch right now, but other than that his overall game wasn’t bad at all.

Tuchel is naturally supporting and backing his striker and was pleased to see him performing well despite not scoring. He says that this happens to every forward player in periods, and that the team need to do better to help create more opportunities for Werner to score on the counter-attack, which is his strength.

The Blues boss was talking about Werner after the game yesterday, and he expects him to be fully firing again soon.

“He is totally into it,” Tuchel said as reported by Eurosport.

“He gives everything.

“You can see, like every striker in the world, they guys are sensitive and nothing helps better than goals. If they miss the goals for a certain time then it isn’t the same for them, it is not special to Timo, it happens with every striker in the world.

“As long as he has the impact, works like he worded today, we will support him.

“We need to improve to bring him into situations to be decisive for us.

“He was confident to play but that is something you cannot demand, you either have it or you don’t. But it is no problem, maybe he just needs to find an easy goal to bring out the last percent.”
