Top Bundesliga star will have to drop £400,000 a week wage demands if he wants Chelsea move

Thomas Tuchel was reminded that Chelsea’s central defender options aren’t perfect last night, when Antonio Rudiger passed the ball into his own net.

The Germany star, who had been brought back into the team by Tuchel, fluffed his lines, but with Thiago Silva out hurt, there weren’t many options for his coach to pick from.

There have been whispers that Chelsea might try and sign David Alaba this summer, and that certainly would add a superb option to the backline. But signing him wouldn’t be easy, and according to the Telegraph today, it would be extremely expensive.

They write that the Austrian wants £400,000 a week on a free transfer, well out of even Chelsea’s price range. There’s also the prospect of Real Madrid hovering, ready to bid up the prices at the very least.

On the other hand, if Tuchel is happy with every other area of his team, it’s possible to imagine him putting all his resources into this one move that could complete the puzzle.
