Thomas Tuchel: “When we wear a Chelsea shirt, we play a Chelsea game”

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has delivered a rallying cry to his players ahead of a vital Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid tonight.

The Blues face the Spanish side in the first leg of round 16 of the competition as they look to advance further.

Chelsea are serious about signing Erling Haaland this summer and will ‘go all out for him’, find out more here.

Chelsea will look to set themselves up with a result to then take back to Stamford Bridge on March the 17th for the second leg.

It will be a very tough game against very good opponents lead by Diego Simeone, Tuchel expects a difficult tie.

But he has reminded his Chelsea players to play for the shirt and actually says that the Champions League is not the priority.

Right now, the German is just taking one game at a time and prioritising getting results in each match as it happens, wisely not getting ahead of himself.

He spoke to the media yesterday, as reported by The Daily Mail.

Tuchel said:

“No [when asked if the Champions League was the priority]. My priority is the next game we play.

“That has never been different and hopefully will never change because it’s exactly what I expect from my players and my teams: that when we wear a Chelsea shirt, we play a Chelsea game and that means we play to win and give 100 per cent of effort and intensity.

“It’s very nice and exciting to play Champions League games in the knockout stages but there is no preference.”

  1. Let Tuchel bring back Hikim Ziyech back to first team if he wants free scoring team with a lot of goal
