Tammy Abraham’s ankle injury “not serious”

Thomas Tuchel has shown he doesn’t really want to use Timo Werner as a striker, meaning Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud are the contenders to play up front in his team.

Abraham got the start against Newcastle, but was forced off injured. Giroud took over and scored.

Tammy’s injury was caused by a heavy tackle and looked like a rolled ankle. It was mild enough that he tried to play on, but he soon gave up on his attempts to continue.

According to Matt Law of the Telegraph, the early signs are good.

The forward “appeared not to suffer serious ankle damage,” so we’re probably talking weeks rather than months.

We will have to wait for Thomas Tuchel’s press conference on Friday for further information, but the early signs are good. The Atletico game next week must be hanging in the balance, and Giroud will be hoping that this run he’s about to get could seal him the starting place for the rest of the season.
