“We have to stay focused and complete the job” – Olivier Giroud ‘pleased to help the team’

Olivier Giroud is the definition of a model professional, he oozes class whether it is on the pitch, or his words off the pitch, he is one classy guy.

The Chelsea striker scored another world class goal last night to give Chelsea a 1-0 advantage over Atletico Madrid going into the second leg of their Champions League clash back at Stamford Bridge on the 17th of March.

Chelsea are serious about signing Erling Haaland this summer and will ‘go all out for him’, find out more here.

The French World Cup winner scored an overhead kick to give Chelsea the win and it was quite a typical unique finish we have grown used to seeing from the veteran striker.

He could have easily left Chelsea in one of the two last transfer windows, but thankfully for us fans he stayed, and he proved once again how needed he is in this squad and exactly what he can bring to the table.

But as ever, he was totally professional and humble after the game, as reported by The BBC.

He said:

“We came here with strong intentions to win the game, play our game and we know how we could give them trouble offensively. We have been strong at the back in the defensive shape and very pleased with the win, it was a deserved win tonight.

“We know the importance of the away goal in European cups so that is why I was pleased to help the team win the game, we managed it well and we were confident but faced a great team and I think we were very committed and knew their main strengths. We dealt with it but we have to stay focussed and complete the job.

“Not over confident, we were confident in our qualities in the game.

“I did not know what to think about the goal, I just focussed on hitting the overhead kick and was pleased to see it go in the back of the net, I had no clue about being offside, Mason Mount said he did not touch the ball. Good for the team, good for me.”
