Kai Havertz’s season in danger of falling flat as another absence looms

Big things were of expected of Kai Havertz this season, and perhaps too much was hoped of the summer signing.

He had arrived in a new league, he had coronavirus early on, and is still really in the early stages of adapting to playing outside Leverkusen.

Havertz started slowly, but the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as manager suddenly revived the hopes that he’d be able to make his breakthrough this year.

But his time on the pitch for the new coach was as ineffective as his minutes with Lampard, and the news that he wasn’t in training today has created fears that he might have another injury issue.

The FA Cup would have made a nice platform for him to show what he can do in behind the strikers of Tuchel’s 3421

The combination of bad form, illness and injury has stopped Havertz putting together a solid run in the first team for some time, and it’s starting to look like we might have to wait until next season to really see him flourish.

  1. Another big money signing who suffers from Morata-Torres-Shevchenco syndrome; why is is that almost all huge price tag Chelsea newcomers flop spectacularly?
On the other hand, teams like Leeds Untd., a bunch of unknown kids, (led, of course by a Chelsea “reject”), eager to wipe their shoes with anyone. Money can’t buy a winning spirit, I guess.
