Frank Lampard’s Rudiger and Tomori fall-out with the board explained

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard fought to keep Fikayo Tomori in his squad for two transfer windows, before the club sourced a deal for him to join AC Milan three days after Lampard got the sack.

According to a report from The Athletic, it was Antonio Rudiger that Lampard wanted moved on, but the board didn’t accept after knowing they would not get a deal they wanted during the pandemic.

Tomori was then the player who slipped down the pecking order and ended up joining AC Milan on loan in January with an option to buy.

Andreas Christensen is still wanted at the club as they do not want another Kevin De Bruyne situation with him, and they preferred to keep Rudiger over Tomori despite Lampard asking them to sell Rudiger.

This caused a rift between Lampard and the board, according to the report, and the rest as they say is history.

  1. If this were true, Lampard would have persisted with playing Tomori. Which we all know he didn’t, which is why Tomori took the loan deal. I totally agree Rudiger should be moved on, Tomori should have been installed in the defence with Silva, like John Terry with Marcel Desailly. We all know how well that went.
