Christian Pulisic: “It’s been really good” playing as a “false striker”

Thomas Tuchel has come in at Chelsea and switched up the formation and tactics entirely.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been thriving as a right wing back, but there has been chances for other players to shine in different roles ahead of him.

Christian Pulisic says he is enjoying playing in the ‘false striker’ position as part of the 3-4-2-1. Playing in the 2, Pulisic has been able to stay quite narrow and get very close and interchange with the main striker – he has often found himself inside the box a lot more in scoring positions.

I genuinely think he can be more of a threat there driving into the box with his skill and pace, and he does have an eye for goal.

This formation gives Chelsea an attacking overload and it has so far been good. Whether Tuchel will continue this way against Tottenham on Thursday is unclear.

But Pulisic says it has ‘been really good’ so far, as reported by The Daily Mail.

“It’s a kind of a false striker [his new position].

“It’s been good so far. We’ve got a new outlook on things, we have had a really good win so it’s been a positive start.

“It’s been some crazy times recently and just to get a win left all the guys in the changing room really excited.

“We have had a lot of fun in training and there are smiles on faces which is good to see.

“It’s a good time to play them [Tottenham] coming off a good result for us.

“We’re feeling confident. We’re really excited. It’s a good chance to make a statement and most importantly really build some momentum. We know what a good result against a good team could do for us.”
