Chelsea want to repeat their trick by adding Champions League winning defender on a free

Now Chelsea have a new manager in place, all those rumours we’ve worked so hard to bring you in the last 18 months are starting to look stale.

Frank Lampard wanted Declan Rice – as we informed you plenty of times – but now Thomas Tuchel is in charge, who will he be keen to bring in?

According to CaughtOffside, Tuchel has his sights on an experienced defender currently playing in his home country. Jerome Boateng is a serial winner at Bayern Munich (he’s got 24 trophies, of varying size), but just like Thiago Silva last year, is coming to the end of his contract and could be tempted by one last big move to a new league.

He’s 32, so not a long term solution, but it’s clear why Tuchel might fancy injecting some more experience and more winning mentality into the dressing room. It’s worked great with Silva, why not repeat the trick?
