Thomas Tuchel has brought Antonio Rudiger back into his plans, but that doesn’t mean he’s content with the options he has at centre back.
His move to a back 3 may be because he wants to get his wing backs involved higher up the pitch, but it could also be diagnosed as a lack of trust in his current crop of centre-backs.
The Daily Mail have cottoned on to this, and they are pushing the idea that the Blues will make an attempt to sign Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule this summer.
Their report is based on a story in Bild, which claims that Bayern themselves are keen to sign Dayot Upamecano from Leipzig, which would allow them the leeway to let Sule go to Chelsea.
So while we’re big fans of Bayern’s gigantic defender, we’re wary of getting too excited about any deal that has two parts, like this one. Let’s see where we are come this summer.
