Chelsea’s hunger for wonderkids is never satisfied, and we see the team swoop for a talent or two from elsewhere almost every summer.
This year it sounds like Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty could be the man we target. The fantastically named 16 year old made his MLS debut last October, and the Daily Mail say Chelsea are one of the teams interested.
The success of Alfonso Davies – not least against us in the Champions League a year ago – seems to have turned everyone on to the idea that North America is starting to produce serious talent now, and Marshall-Rutty could be the next player off that particular production line.
As always in these cases, there’s a huge amount of competition. There are no secrets in football anymore, especially when it comes to talents of this level. We just have to hope that we can put forward a more convincing offer than anyone else.
