Azpilicueta is stats man of the match for Chelsea in professional display

Chelsea beat Atletico Madrid with a very professional and controlled performance, and there were a few who stood out for Blues

A lot of people talked about Mason Mount, who was impressive behind the striker and made the most decisive attacking moves of the day for his team.

Timo Werner was also dangerous in attack.

But one person who didn’t get too much praise was the man who WhoScored had as their man of the match: Cesar Azpilicueta.

He was rock solid at the back and made one particularly impressive clearance covering across his backline. He won SIX aerial duels as he took the chance to dominate Joao Felix and Luis Suarez to the first ball all game.

His passing was crisp, he lead the team well in a controlled display. We can understand why his stats were so good. Thomas Tuchel, who brought him back to the lineup, must be delighted.
