“It does affect his family” – Mason Mount’s Father opens up on social media abuse

There have been many positives of social media exploding in recent years, it can bring a lot of joy and connects people around the world.

However, it can also bring the worst and the evil out in some people, who think that it is totally fine to troll and abuse celebrities online, people they have never met, in the safety of their own homes hiding behind an invisible avi image.

It’s become rife with footballers as well, especially high profile Chelsea players, and in the subject of this particular story – Mason Mount.

The Chelsea and England midfielder has been subjected to very weird and disgusting abuse online, sometimes from his own ‘fans.’

Luckily Mason just brushes it aside and does not read any of it, but for those close to him, his family and friends, it can be a horrific thing to go through.

I sat down with Mason’s Dad, Tony, on The Si Phillips Talks Chelsea Podcast yesterday and we addressed this, it quite simply HAS to stop.

Tony said:

“It doesn’t affect Mason he doesn’t read it. Mase only deals with positivity.

“But it does affect his family; it affects his sisters it affects my wife. They get upset. But they know not to read it.

“I only read the accounts I want to read like you guys, I’ve got thick skin.

“My family are truly humbled by the real Chelsea fans.”
