(Video): Thomas Tuchel explains exactly why he dropped Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell was subbed off against Wolves this week, and then didn’t start today, hinting that Thomas Tuchel, the new Chelsea manager, isn’t a fan of the left back.

Speaking in his press conference after the game, the new boss said it was just a tactical decision, to opt for Marcos Alonso

The manager insisted it was purely strategic, not form related, with Alonso’s extra height and aerial ability apparently behind the decision to use the Spaniard instead of Chilwell on this occasion.

You can see the manager speaking in the clip embedded here, with this answer coming after two minutes:

  1. I Adebesin Samuel Oluwamayowa, I love what Thomas tTuchel did cos it’s the right thing to do, I’m not saying this cos Marcos scored a goal yesterday, no it’s not cos Marcos deserve to be on the pitch everytime and hv to play every game cos of his ability. I thought Chillwell doesn’t play very against wolve and as a coach u need to look for alternative. So to me what Thomas did is proper and good.
