“Roman will not be happy” claims former Chelsea star

Chelsea took all three points against Fulham on Saturday in what was a much relieving result for the Blues.

Frank Lampard’s side have been struggling in the league in the last handful of matches, and they badly need to register all three points on the table.

Scott Parker’s Fulham side were never going to be a walk over after stringing together a decent run of results themselves. But it was a game that Chelsea were expected to win on paper, and they did the job.

However, they certainly made things difficult for themselves and the performance wasn’t great.

Former Chelsea star Alan Hudson believes that Roman Abramovich would not be happy watching that game, and Lampard will be a concerned man still despite the win.

Speaking via Caught Offside after the match, Hudson said:

“If I were manager I would not be happy. They made it extremely difficult for themselves against a team struggling against relegation with ten men for the last 50 minutes.

“Chelsea, as we know, will always create chances because that is Frank’s philosophy, and he will live or die by this.

“Not long before the sending-off I thought Roman (Abramovich) will not be happy watching them struggle to overcome little old Fulham.

“My thinking was just imagine Chelsea had a man sent off instead. I think we’d be singing a different song this morning.”

There were some slight improvements from Lampard’s side on the night, and the build up to the goal was good. But I do agree with Hudson, there was still many concerning moments in the match.

“This morning, Frank will be a very, very concerned man who simply does not know his best starting XI. That is a fact.

“Liverpool have lost their captain and leader yet they still know who their best XI is. Southampton had a great run because they know their best XI. Manchester City also know their best XI, whereas Frank doesn’t.

“And it showed last night more than any other match. Frank is struggling.”
