“The pressure is fine” – Frank Lampard says he’s calm despite the storm

Chelsea are in a very tough spot at the moment. Their form is in a tailspin, their inexperienced manager is under pressure, their expensive summer signings aren’t playing well.

It all adds up to a very tense, very high pressure situation, with rumours about coach Frank Lampard’s removal swirling around the club every day.

He was asked in the team’s press conference today about how he felt being in the eye of the storm, and Lampard brushed off the idea he was feeling the strain.

“The pressure is fine,” he asserted.

“You’re more happy when you’re winning games, but it comes with the territory. I just have to get on with the job,” he went on in quotes picked up by Football.London.

It’s convincing – in theory – but the tone of his voice, and indeed the atmosphere around the whole press conference was pretty tense, and despite what Lampard would like us to believe, the strain is definitely taking its toll to some degree.

A win will make everything easier – but we’re not sure victory over Luton would do it. It will be against Wolves in our next Premier League game that Lampard gets the chance to ease the pressure with three points.
