Former Manchester United player explains why Frank Lampard could be in trouble

CaughtOffside have a regular interview with Luke Chadwick, the former Manchester United player, and while the focus is understandably on the Red Devils most weeks,

This time Chelsea are a major player in the story though, as Chadwick compares Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Frank Lampard.

Both have been in difficult situations recently, but the Man U manager will get more chances to succeed than Lampard, according to Chadwick:

“I think that is the difference between Manchester United and Chelsea – I wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea changed the manager quite quickly because that’s what they’ve done over the years, they’re looking for that instant success, whereas with Man United, the history of the club is to give managers a bit more time.”

That’s all fair – and probably true, but it doesn’t take into account the important factor that Lampard is a club hero at Chelsea.

OK, Roman Abramovich is certainly more trigger happy with his manager than the Glazer family are in Manchester, but Lampard’s status with the club and fans (and with Roman too) is sure to buy him some more time – in fact it’s probably the only reason he’s still in a job.

Let’s see where we stand in a month or two – if Lamps makes it that far.
