ESPN: Lampard’s demise – Rotation, lack of communication, and not getting best of new signings

Yesterday was a really sad for Chelsea Football Club, regardless of whether you think Frank Lampard should have been given more time or not.

It was a club legend, a man that fans absolutely adore, being sacked by the club he was a legend at, that was the bottom line.

As news broke, outlets started producing their reasoning as to thy this has happened, and ESPN’s piece caught my eye because it was jointly written by a number of their top sources James Olley, Mark Ogden, Julien Laurens, Gab Marcotti, and Tom Hamilton.

They believe that several players grew frustrated with Lampard for too much chopping and changing of the team selection, and a lack of communication with them.

They claim that Lampard struggled to consistently motivate Chelsea’s veteran players, something that disappointed senior figures at the club.

The hierarchy also grew frustrated at a lack of clear identity on the pitch and the failure to get their expensive new signings firing.

The biggest problem was obviously Chelsea’s current league position and their distance to the top of it.

A group of Abramovich’s advisors actually wanted Lampard to remain through the end of the 2020-21 season, but of course that wasn’t to be.
