There’s a new manager in place at Stamford Bridge, and every player has a fresh chance to prove their worth.
Thomas Tuchel was rushed onto the touchline today having barely put pen to paper on his deal at Chelsea, meaning that he barely had a moment in training to have a look at his new players.
Their performances tonight will go a long way to making an impression on him as he looks to sort out his first choice side, and one man who perhaps didn’t make the most of his chance was Olivier Giroud.
He’s locked in eternal struggle with Tammy Abraham for minutes up front, and every game will count in trying to persuade his new coach that he’s the man for the job.
The Tweeter who said that the game was “Chelsea vs. Wolves and Giroud” were obviously being a little harsh, but it certainly wasn’t a vintage performance from the Frenchman.
You can see a selection of the reaction on social media embedded here:
Hopefully Tuchel has learnt that Jorginho, Azpi and Giroud shouldn’t be playing

Harvertz and Giroud unassertiveness is the main reason why our possession amounts to nothing. #CHEWOL
