A centre back is certainly on the agenda for Chelsea this summer, with the position becoming a priority for the board.
Of course, they have a new manager at the helm now and Thomas Tuchel will need to assess his current squad and see which players he will look to keep, and which players he will want to move on.
January is not over yet, but Chelsea have been very quiet mainly because of the manager change. However, a centre back is a position that will be addressed and Tuchel is expected to talk to the board around March time to decide what he wants to do this summer.
This is according to Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, who was speaking on The Si Phillips Talks Chelsea Podcast today.
When pressed about which player he feels is the most likely to arrive at Chelsea first this summer, Romano answered Dayot Upamecano, the centre back from RB Leipzig.
In fact, he also confirmed that Chelsea “have started contact with the agent of Dayot Upamecano.”
One to keep a real close eye on for sure.
