Chelsea hope to bend coronavirus rules to put new manager in place for Wednesday night

If you’re waking up late this morning you’ve got a lot of catching up to do. Frank Lampard has been sacked, and Thomas Tuchel all but named as his successor.

It’s already got to the stage of wondering when the German coach will be on the bench, and according to David Ornstein of the Athletic, there could be some issues there.

Chelsea face Wolves and then Burnley this week, and would clearly like to have their new man in place. But coronavirus rules mean that Tuchel will have to enter the “bubble” of quarantine, making the day after tomorrow seem an impossible ask.

Ornstein seems to think that the same rule bending that allows “elite sport” to continue while the rest of the country is locked down could be used here to get the former PSG boss into place early, but there may be a limit to how much football is allowed to run rings around the rules.
