Callum Hudson-Odoi named man of the match despite changed role

Perhaps the most notable thing about Thomas Tuchel’s first lineup at Chelsea was the use of Callum Hudson-Odoi as a right wing back.

Usually used far further forward, the winger looked good attacking up the right, and CaughtOffside noticed he was named Man of the Match by BT Sport after the game.

It was well deserved. In a game where the Blues passed the ball back and forth without much purpose, he always looked to make runs from deep and try quick switches of play.

As you can see from the stats in the Tweet embedded above, he put in an impressive 7 crosses from the right as he looked to bomb forward and attack. A little more presence in the middle, and we might have got the goal to win the game.

He was good value for his individual award, and we hope that he can use this bright start to become a fixture in the new first XI of Thomas Tuchel.
