£70m Chelsea target not coming this month – but long term a move still likely

Like many big clubs, transfers to Chelsea often come at the end of a long process of scouting, negotiating and waiting for the right moment to buy players.

Declan Rice is a target we’ve been linked with heavily for almost 2 years now, but the race isn’t quite over yet. Football.London are today reporting that the Blues are still at the front of the queue for the West Ham man – but they won’t get their turn this month.

They claim he’s going to cost £70m, and that Chelsea have all but accepted that they’ll have to wait until the summer to get this deal done.

That’s pretty much as we’d expected – every passing month brings the defensive midfielder closer to the end of his contract, and makes Chelsea’s job easier in negotiating to sign him.

For now, as much as we’d love to have him around for the second half of this season, we’ll just have to be patient.
