Shot-shy Chelsea have just one player in top 30 marksmen

Chelsea haven’t scored from open play since the 3-1 win over Leeds on the 4th December, and it’s absolutely critical that the Blues get their shooting boots on to take on a dangerous West Ham team on Monday.

Looking at the stats on WhoScored, it’s clear that one of the issues in the last couple of game has been too much passive passing and not enough efforts on goal.

Given Chelsea have had the third highest average possession in the league this season, you’d expect them to dominate the shooting charts too. But instead, there is just one Blue in the top 30 in the league – Timo Werner way down in 20th.

Of course we don’t advocate the taking of low xG efforts for the sake of it, but we’ve got to start working players like Olivier Giroud, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz into dangerous positions more often if we want to end our goal drought.
