Paul Merson makes insulting Kai Havertz comparison

Paul Merson has laid into Kai Havertz, and made a comparison that some Chelsea fans might find a little disturbing.

The Germany midfielder has had a quiet start to life at Chelsea, and while it was all going comfortably beneath the radar while we were winning, it’s only taken two losses on the bounce to draw out some nasty criticism.

In recent games he’s looked rather slow and disinterested, wandering around the pitch at times. That’s lead Arsenal legend Paul Merson to make a rather insulting comparison (on recent evidence) in quotes picked up by the Daily Mirror:

“Kai Havertz looks like Mesut Ozil at the moment. A major talent, but when he loses the ball, he doesn’t try to win it back.”

“Ozil used to get major stick because he didn’t always seem interested. But Havertz looks like that sometimes now as well.”

Let’s not forget that Ozil is a World Cup winner and has been a brilliant player at times. But it can’t be denied that Havertz shares his laguid style which just invites criticism if things aren’t going well.

All it will take is a few wins and a few goals to shut up the critics, however.
