Olivier Giroud backed to keep hold of Chelsea starting spot by national manager

We’ve seen time and again in his spell at Chelsea that Olivier Giroud doesn’t complain when he’s benched, he just gets on with working hard in training and scoring goals when he’s on the pitch.

That’s why he’s a manager’s dream, and why he has won over several Blues bosses in his time at the club.

Hearing his national team manager speak about him, it’s even clearer why he’s so respected. Didier Deschamps had an interview in L’Equipe which was translated by SportWitness where he can’t praise the striker highly enough.

He’s also sure that he will have earned his starting spot full time again by the time the spring comes around:

“Olivier knew his game time was limited at one point. He turned that around. Things changed. Just like it’ll likely change in February or March… it’s a merit to him for not letting go, but we know that: the harder it gets, the stronger he holds on.”

After three games without a goal from open play, Chelsea are looking to spark some goals back into this team, and Giroud may feel that his place is somewhat under threat.

Ask any manager of his whether they think he’ll win that battle, and we’re pretty sure they’ll all say yes.
