“It didn’t go down well” – When Andy Robertson wore a Chelsea shirt

Liverpool left back Andy Robertson is hard not to like, even as a fan of a rival club.

He’s a gritty, tough fighter who has worked his way up from the very bottom of the football pyramid, and is now on top of the world as a Premier League and Champions League winner.

He has an interesting interview in FourFourTwo today where he tells the story of why he put on a Chelsea shirt – it was all to do with Chelsea’s game against Man City.

“When it came to that night in June – when Manchester City lost at Chelsea and we were confirmed as champions – the club had everything organised for us on the back of beating Crystal Palace 4-0 the day before,” Robertson explained of that crazy night back in “Project Restart”.

“I won’t lie: I do have a Chelsea shirt in my possession, and I may have jokingly stuck it on for the boys in our group chat ahead of the game. It didn’t go down well, and I got the bites I was hoping for. It doesn’t quite fit: it’s Billy Gilmour’s, so a bit small for me!”

Clearly his countryman Gilmour had given him a shirt, maybe after the Chelsea – Liverpool match that the youngster started.

Either way, it’s a good little anecdote, and we hope the two of them come up against each other plenty more times in the future. We’d rather not win Liverpool any more leagues along the way… but you can’t have everything.
